01Botanical origins
Two from the Amazon, one from the Andes.
Camu camu, red maca and sacha inchi have a long history of traditional use in Peru. Wayta uses the seed oil of sacha inchi, the fruit of camu camu and the root of red maca, each for what it contributes to cosmetic care.
Amazon riverbanks. The high Andes.
Plant traditions from Peru, chosen one ingredient at a time and formulated with modern cosmetic science.
01Sacha inchi
Amazon · Seed oil
Plukenetia volubilis
A tropical climbing plant associated with the Peruvian Amazon, known for its distinctive star-shaped fruit. Its seeds yield an oil rich in unsaturated fatty acids.
Sacha inchi oil is valued in cosmetic formulation for its fatty-acid profile. A 2024 study in Journal of Oleo Science characterized the oil and demonstrated antioxidant activity in laboratory assays, supporting interest in its cosmetic potential. These findings do not establish anti-aging results on human skin.

High Andes · Root extract
Lepidium meyenii
Maca is a plant traditionally cultivated in Peru’s high Andes. The red variety is part of the botanical identity of Wayta, which uses an extract of its root.
Red maca forms part of our botanical skin-conditioning blend. A 2018 scientific review in Journal of Oleo Science examines maca constituents, including polysaccharides, phenolic compounds and amino acids, and their potential cosmetic applications. This review concerns maca generally; it does not establish specific skin benefits of the red variety.

Amazon · Fruit extract
Myrciaria dubia
An Amazonian fruit associated with riverbank environments. Camu camu is known for its vitamin C and other naturally occurring antioxidant compounds. Wayta uses an extract of the fruit.
Research on camu camu extracts has measured their composition and antioxidant capacity in laboratory assays. These findings inform ingredient selection; they do not demonstrate an antioxidant effect on the skin from the finished Wayta cream.
Read the camu camu study on PubMed (opens in a new tab)Ingredient research is presented for cosmetic context. Evidence on an oil, extract or another formulation does not establish the performance of Wayta. Specific efficacy claims require testing of the finished formula. Traditional plant use is distinct from scientific evidence of cosmetic efficacy.

These Peruvian plants are part of an ancestral tradition of use. Wayta brings that botanical heritage into contemporary skincare. We handcraft our products in small batches, with attention to every ingredient.
Based in Lima for this project, we want to bring Peruvian skincare to new markets.
